Getting good Crypto data to understand the lay of the land

Much like when you are using the internet you don’t see the traffic that everyone else is generating, it’s easy to think you are the only one transacting on the blockchain. But you are not. And looking at what happens onchain, and who’s there, can be very informative to understand what everyone’s doing and how everyone’s feeling. And to spot opportunities and trends.
However fascinating they are, prices are not the only thing to track.
In the rapidly evolving world of crypto, understanding on-chain activity is crucial for making informed decisions. A plethora of tools and platforms exist to aid in this endeavor, each offering unique insights into the complex dynamics of the market and user behaviours.
We often get asked where data can be found and how it can be queried. There are a couple trusted sources we keep going back to so we thought we would share it here to save you the research. There are some you probably already know of, but hopefully you’ll discover some lesser-known platforms.
The list is pretty heterogenous. From the basics such as Etherscan, which provides a comprehensive view of all transactions on the Ethereum blockchain, to L2beat, which offers insights into the scaling solutions of various Layer 2 platforms, or lensanalytics.xyz which offers a look into the Lens social network.
There are very specific tool, like cryptofees, that give you one piece of information only, to complete data platforms such as Messari, that will supply you with a firehose of data and analytics.
The list below is also available as a table here if you prefer that format.
